Your group can charter a trolley or train for a very reasonable rate. It makes the perfect school field trip, and hundreds of children from throughout Southern California visit with us each year. Charters usually consist of rides on two different trolleys, a train ride on our mainline, and a guided tour of the Museum grounds (allow 2 to 3 hours).
Charters are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm. In the summer months (June through September), all weekday trolley operations must be completed by 11:45 am because of electric power restrictions. Although the grounds remain open until 5 pm year-round, mornings are the best time to schedule a visit during the summer months because of cooler temperatures.
Because of staffing considerations and other activities at the Museum, some days may not be available for charters. Reservations must be made 30 days in advance. You can arrange a charter for almost any size group.
School Groups: $5.00 per student (through high school), minimum charge is $150.00 (30 students). There must be one supervising adult for every six students; these adults are included in the minimum charge. Additional adults are $7.00.
Adult Groups: $7.00 per adult, $5.00 per child under age 12. Minimum charge is $210 (30 adults).
An advance deposit is required, either the minimum charge or one-half the total price, whichever is greater. Your charter is not guaranteed until the deposit is received.
The balance of the charter fee must be paid when you arrive for your charter. The payment can be cash, check, or credit card; one form is preferred because a mix complicates the process. We do not accept purchase orders.
All equipment is subject to availability. The Museum reserves the right to substitute equipment for all operations.
A full refund will be issued if you notify us more than 72 hours before the charter. If cancellation is received less than 72 hours before the charter, no refund will be issued.
In case of rain, or the possibility of rain, call the Museum at least two hours before your scheduled charter time to confirm the local weather conditions. We do not recommend visits during heavy rain. Your deposit can be refunded or you can reschedule your charter. If you do not call, your deposit will not be refunded.
You can bring your own picnic, but alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on Museum property. A catered lunch can be available with advance notice.
Parking is always free.
