Built:
1909 by the St. Louis Car Co. Retired:
1934 Construction: Wood Length: 43 ft. Weight: 58,500 lbs. Seats: 48 A sister to PE Car 538, the 530 came to the Museum in 2007 after seventy years as part of a home in Crestline, California, in the nearby San Bernardino Mountains. Given its age, the car is remarkably complete and in good condition, especially the interior of the closed section passenger compartment. Moving the car out of its former location required some creative thinking and a lot of tree removal. The car was first jacked up off of its foundation and rotated some 30 degrees to point it towards the driveway of the house. Steel channels were then placed under the car, and the carbody itself placed on machinery rollers. A Landoll type trailer was then maneuvered into the driveway and its deck elevated to provide a flat platform for the car to be rolled onto. Upon arrival at the Museum, the car was placed on temporary shop trucks and placed inside Carhouse Seven.
