The weekend of June 14 and 15, 2014 was busy at Orange Empire Railway Museum for Pacific Electric Weekend the Father’s Day Barbecue in Holstrom Park on June 15th.
The PE Weekend part of the activities included rides on the train, pulled by PE locomotive 1624, the last operational Pacific Electric ‘Juice Jack’. Also operating were interurban car ‘blimp’ 418, Hollywood car 717, and Birney 332. Additional rides were available on Interurban car 1001, built in 1913.
For the BBQ on Sunday several picnic tables were lined up and decorated with colorful table cloths. The menu consisted of BBQ chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, cornbread and cherry cobbler. This was one of the museum’s most successful Father’s Day BBQ, with 250 people in attendance.
The Holstrom Park location once again proved the foresight of planning and landscaping this once barren area into a park with now mature trees and a lawn, perfectly suited to this kind of event.
